wasted money, lost rights.

So, our country made history this week! We should be excited! I'm sure everyone is wanting to end our country's horrible financial situation and the vicious war in the middle east as soon as possible. I'm glad to see that a dramatic change is in our near future. There is one measure in the state of California that was passed that makes me cringe inside. I guess I should really not give a damn as some would say because I live in Idaho, and this wouldn't effect me. From my understanding of our government there was supposed to be a seperation of church and state. Proposition 8 in California was passed abolishing same sex marriages. Proposition 8 is a proposed constitutional amendment titled Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry Act. This right was given to same sex couples May 15, 2008, only to me taken away less than 6 months later. I was so surprised to see this on youtube:

How would a government be allowed to take away someone's rights? The reasons given by the Mormon church are that we need to protect what God intended marriage to be. This completely defies the separation of church and state. This is so sad for California, such a liberal state, to give their citizens these rights and then take them away; because an extremely wealthy group of religious people were able to force their religious beliefs into their society. $20 Million. I don't need to say this, but that's a lot of money. Where did that $20 Million go? To take away their rights. So that they could let the United States of America know that this group of people should not have rights according to their beliefs. For a church that claims to be so charitable, I imagined that $20 Million would have saved no less than one persons life, or fed a minimum of one hungry soldier.

Trick or Treat!

Reggie dressed as Bob the Builder! I took Reggie trick or treating around half of the neighborhood and Tyler did the other half. Now Reggie has a years supply of candy. And not to mention the 250 kids that came trick or treating to our house, left us with an abundance of leftover candy.

Halloween Festiveness

Carving Pumpkins! This was the 1st Halloween that Tyler & I have had together where we decided to carve pumpkins. Reggie had so much fun! I was surprised that I couldn't get him to stick his hand inside of the pumpkins. He kept saying "yucky mommy." Reggie was trying to use his toy sword as a knife to carve the pumpkins, his exact words were "my knife." Tyler decided that pumpkins need ears and eyebrows too. The pumpkin carving was a success. Next year, we will wait until just a few days before Halloween. The pumpkins were pretty moldy and shriveled when the day actually came, I was pretty surprised since we did it the carving on the 20th, but now I know for next year. I also read somewhere that if you rub Vaseline on the carved edges, then it helps to keep the shriveling down.
